FILM REVIEW: Drishyam

DRISHYAM

Thriller film, 2015

Drishyam is a  Indian thriller film directed by Nishikant Kamat. The film's story revolves around a cable operator named Vijay Salgaonkar (played by Ajay Devgn), who lives with his wife (played by Shriya Saran) and two daughters in a small village in Goa. Vijay's life takes a dramatic turn when his family becomes embroiled in a crime, and is a thrilling tale  for he could  stop at nothing to protect his family  from the law and and create a false alibi.  The film is divided into two section, Drishyam 1, 2015  and Drishyam 2, 2022. the film was first produced in   in 2013  in  malayala.

Vijay's daughter, Anju, accidentally kills a young man who was trying to sexually assault her. Fearing the consequences of their actions, Vijay and his family dispose of the body and attempt to cover up the crime. However, things take a turn for the worse when the young man's mother, a powerful police officer named IG Meera Deshmukh (played by Tabu), begins investigating the case.
IG Meera
Tabu delivers an outstanding performance. Her character is complex, and she manages to portray her inner turmoil and struggle effectively. The chemistry between Devgn and Tabu is palpable, and their scenes together are some of the best in the movie.

As the investigation unfolds, Vijay's family becomes increasingly entangled in a web of lies and deceit. Vijay, who is a master of the art of deception, uses his cunning and intelligence to protect his family from the law. The movie's suspenseful narrative builds up to a climactic finale, where the truth is finally revealed but very intense and emotionally satisfying, with Vijay's plan to protect his family coming to fruition. The audience is left feeling a mix of emotions, relieved that the family is safe but also saddened by the loss of life that occurred during the film's events.

Vijay Salgaonkar delivers a stunning performance , the protagonist of the movie. His character is well-rounded and layered, and the audience can relate to his motivations. His love for his family is evident throughout the movie. His interactions with his wife and daughters are heartwarming, and the chemistry between the actors is palpable thus makes him my favourite character.

The film Drishyam is loosely based on a Japanese novel called "The Devotion of Suspect X" by Keigo Higashino.

The film's director, Nishikant Kamat, adapted the story to an Indian setting and made significant changes to the plot and characters to suit the local audience.

"Drishyam" is set in a small village in Goa, which is a coastal state in western India. The movie's beautiful backdrop showcases the lush greenery and serene beaches of Goa, giving the audience a glimpse of the state's natural beauty.
The characters' attire, technology, and other elements of daily life depicted in the film clearly suggest that the film is set in the present day.

The film's visual aesthetics, are stunning. The use of close-up shots, jump cuts, and montage sequences helps to maintain the film's pace and keep the audience engaged. The movie's direction, acting, and screenplay are all top-notch. The film's themes of family, loyalty, and justice are universal, and they resonate with the audience  of all ages and backgrounds.

On balance this is an ideal film for both parents and children  and all the fan of suspenseful thrillers. If you haven't seen this movie yet, then do yourself a favor and watch it. You won't be disappointed
